Located about 12 km away from Coonoor is the Dolphin's Nose about 1,500 meters above sea level. The tip of the peak of this enormous rock resembles a dolphin's nose and this is one of the most visited tourist spots in The Nilgiris District of Tamil Nadu.
It is set amidst the rolling hills of the Nilgiris Hills (or the Blue Mountains). The gigantic rock formation is entirely unprecedented. There are enormous canyons found on both the sides of the destination and there is a clear view of the Catherine Falls, another popular tourist destination with its ongoing current several thousand meters below, which is located at a short distance from the Dolphin's Nose.

The best part about the spot is the tea plantations and the hairpin turns on the way. This striking spot also allows a panoramic view of the hills that are covered with tea plantations. Thus, the view of the Catherine Waterfalls, Nilgiris Hills, and the unobstructed view of the quaint villages, the ravines on both the sides and the scenery makes the Dolphin's Nose one of the best viewpoints in Coonoor. People tend to watch the sunrise and the sunset from this location. It is located near Tiger Hills, Lamb’s Rock, Catherine Falls, and Kotagiri - some other major tourist places in Coonoor.

How To Reach Dolphin's Nose, Ooty
Coonoor is at a distance of 21 km from Ooty and the Dolphin's Nose is at a distance of 32 km from Ooty.
If travelling by air, Coimbatore is the nearest domestic airport from Ooty. Coimbatore is approximately 88 km away from Ooty. This airport is well-connected with a majority of the Indian cities. There are regular flights from Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai connecting Bangalore and Coimbatore. Once you reach the airport, you can take a taxi or bus from there to reach Coonoor.
If travelling by bus, one can find both government and luxury buses from Bangalore, Mysore and Chennai to Ooty as it is one of the most prominent tourist attractions of the south. They are overnight buses and the journey is quite comfortable. A special government bus leaves at 5 pm and 7 pm daily from Calicut and it takes just 6 hours to reach Ooty. From there, one can take a cab to Coonoor. If coming from Kotagiri, Adubettu Bus Stand is the nearest bus stop to the viewpoint. Adubettu is located only a short walk away from Catherine Falls.
If travelling by train and coming from Ooty, the nearest railway station is Mettupalayam, about 40 km from Ooty. There are trains from Chennai, Coimbatore, Mysore and Bangalore connecting Mettupalayam. Some of the most popular trains that arrive here are the Ooty Udagamandalam Passenger train, Mettupalayam Udagamandalam Passenger train, Mangalore Mail and Mangalore Express. One can then take a taxi from the railway junction. The distance from Ooty to Dolphin Nose is about 30 km via Ketti and Coonoor. From Coonoor Railway Station, one should follow the road to Bedford Circle and then continue on the west to Dolphin's Nose. There are taxis for rent available any time during the day.
