Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan, Perak, Ipoh Overview

The Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan is a clock tower located in the town of Teluk Intan of Hilir Perak District. It is known to be equivalent to the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy because it is also tilted to the left.

The Leaning Tower Teluk Intan was initially built as a water storage tank meant for people during the dry season. However, it is also used as a time-keeper as it holds a massive clock at the top. It was after the independence year, i.e. in 1957 that this monument officially became a national monument.

Design

The Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan has a pagoda-style structure which has been influenced by Chinese architecture. This is primarily because, during the construction of the building, the majority of the local population was Chinese. It is 25.5 meters tall and appears to be an eight-storeyed building. However, with a closer look at the Tower, you will find the monument to be three-storeyed and not eight.

Each of these storeys is five meters high, and you need to climb 110 steps to reach the top of the tower. The reasons for the tower to lean in the southwest direction are because of the soft ground it has been made on and the weight of the water in the water tank. The building is made of bricks and wood, and the local people have contributed to the cost of constructing it.

How to Reach the Leaning Tower Teluk Intan

Reaching the Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan is more comfortable if one is using the coastal road from Kuala Lumpur. You need to go towards the direction of Kuala Selangor where you will pass by Pasir Penampang and Sekinchan and Sabak Bernam towards further North. However, you will reach Teluk Intan if you keep following the signage which will get you to the place in two hours of driving.
