Kemaro Island, Palembang Overview

Kemaro Island is part of the delta region of the Musi River, located 6 kilometres downstream from the Ampera Bridge in Palembang, the capital of South Sumatra.

The island is a tiny piece of land, but it boasts a beautiful and vibrant, 9-floored Chinese Vihara named Klenteng Hok Tjing Rio. Another attraction on the island is a Buddhist temple housing the graves of Tan Bun Ann, a Chinese Prince and Siti Fatimah, a Srivijayan Princess. It is believed that they shared a Shakespearean tragic love story involving several pots of gold. Local Buddhists revere the temple, and primarily visited during festivals like Cap go Meh and Imlek New Year.
