Aghanjar Mahadev Temple, Dharamshala Overview

Located 5 kms away from the town of Dharamshala in Khaniyara, at the foothills of Dhauladhar, Aghanjar Mahadev Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Believed to have been built around 500 years ago, the temple is nestled amidst bounteous forests and emerald mountain peaks. Other than the idyllic setting, a tiny cascading waterfall accentuates the beauty of the shrine. A small cave near the temple houses a shivalinga and has been marked as a revered spot of worship. Perched at a little height, the 500-year-old temple can be reached through a stone paved pathway. The legend goes to say that Arjun - one among the five Pandava brothers - was once on his way to Kailash Parbat for a fight with the Kauravas. When he reached this spot, Lord Shiva appeared before him and blessed him to win the war. The Aghanjar Mahadev Temple has been a revered place of worship ever since.
