Anand Bhawan is the former residence of Nehru family which has now been transformed into a museum showcasing various artefacts and articles of the era of Independence movement in India. The double-storey mansion was personally designed by Motilal Nehru.

When the prior residence of Nehru's family Swaraj Bhavan started to be used as an office of Indian National Congress, a new Nehru residence was designed by Motilal Nehru, a notable independence movement leader, and politician. The house is beautifully adorned with the wooden furniture imported from China and Europe and various artefacts from all around the world.

Anand Bhawan has an important historic value not only because of its construction but also for the major role that it has played in the history of India. Anand Bhavan Museum

Anand Bhavan was donated to the Indian government in 1970 by the then president of India - Indira Gandhi, and it was then transformed into a museum as a tribute to the Nehru family. The museum showcases the memorabilia of the Nehru family, with a lot of the personal items that were used by Pandit Nehru during his stay here.

There are also a lot of photos from the meetings of the Indian National Congress, and from the meetings of conspirators who used to gather here to plan their activities against the British rule. You can also find various books and historical records that were written and used by Pandit Nehru during the independence movement of India.

Nehru Planetarium

Anand Bhawan is not only a historic museum but also has a science planetarium planted inside the premises of the mansion. The planetarium was built in 1975 and is managed by Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund. It was built to inculcate an interest in science among the school kids of the city - and you would often see long queues of school children coming here. The planetarium is surrounded by lush green gardens. Each year the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru Lecture is held at the planetarium on 14 November, his birth anniversary.

Swaraj Bhavan

Swaraj Bhavan is a museum division found within the expanse of the Anand Bhavan. Former home to the Nehru family and owned by Motilal Nehru, it was further handed over to the Indian National Congress in the 1920s. Thus, becoming a vital site during the fight for Indian independence.

This heritage building was also the birthplace of Indira Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru's daughter. Translating to the Abode of Freedom, the Swaraj Bhavan, today is a museum housing various antique pieces of the Nehru lifestyle, including furniture and other home decors.
