“People don’t take trips, trips take people”
Did you know this is true for all earthlings, including your favorite celebrities?
Yes! Celebrities are people too and they love to travel as much as you and I do. They get to travel a lot thanks to promo work, tournaments and shooting at picturesque locations.
Some of you love travelling alone while there are some who appreciate good company while journeying to a new destination. We thought it would be fun to give you 10 celebrities who would be swell to travel with!
We aren’t just listing random names here – we mean it when we say that they would make amazing travel companions. These celebrities aren’t just bold and beautiful, but are also seasoned travellers.
1. Gul Panag
Anyone who’s a fan of Gul Panag knows her love for adventure. Gul loves to take road trips and travel so much that she started her own travel show on Discovery Channel India!
She actually got her Scorpio customized for a road trip to Ladakh, and calls it Supermilo (after her late dog, Milo). Gul also enjoys travelling to Goa with her husband and unlike conventional beach bums, she loves kayaking. Her other favorite offbeat travel destinations include Gokarna and Hampi.
She’s adventurous, an amazing driver/rider (SUV, bikes, you name it!) and loves dogs – what more could you want in your travel buddy? Woof if you agree!
2. Narendra Modi
Narendra Modi has the best job in this country. I mean, sure, he is the most powerful man in India but since the time he has been sworn in as the Prime Minister, he has travelled to 26 countries. NaMo should start his own travel blog!
Our Prime Minister has a soft spot for Varanasi, his constituency, which holds great religious significance not only to him, but also to the entire country.
In his Mann Ki Baat programme, he urged people to share their travel pictures and memories with him by using the hashtag #IncredibleIndia. These pictures have been compiled into an album on his official Facebook page to promote Indian tourism.
If the PM gets to be your travel buddy, you might not be able to have a nice holiday per se as he claims that he hasn’t ever taken a vacation for even 15 minutes! However, you will surely get to accompany him to beautiful places around the world and meet important, powerful personalities, and Hollywood heartthrobs like Richard Gere!
3. Sachin Tendulkar
This man needs no introduction, and neither does his love for travel! Despite devoting his life to the sport, the God of Cricket managed to take time out to travel the world with his family. According to him, his most memorable holiday was when he went to Iceland because his credit card never left his pocket (there were hardly any shops there)!
A few years back, he was spotted having a great time with his family and friends at Gir. He also enjoys visiting the Queen of Hills, Mussoorie. Sachin and his family have also visited the famous Jallianwalah Bagh in Amritsar and didn’t forget the ever-majestic Taj Mahal in Agra. Whatever you say, this man knows how to enjoy offbeat as well as conventional holiday destinations.
Recently, while holidaying in Oxfordshire, he displayed a God-level sarcasm to match his cricket skills by tweeting “Missed the last bus. Can anyone give me a lift?” Mistaking his humor for the truth, thousands of fans offered to come to his rescue, some were even ready to leave their jobs to chauffeur him around the world forever!
With numerous cricket world records to his name and a vibrant personality coupled with a humble attitude, he will surely be an amazing travel celebuddy.
4. Ranbir Kapoor
Ranbir Kapoor calls himself as a ‘loner’. Don’t be dejected – even though he loves travelling solo, we think he might be okay with you tagging along!
His very first trip without adult supervision was to Goa. No surprises there!
Ranbir’s favorite destinations include Spain, London, and New York.
He believes that travelling does not only mean visiting places but also interacting with people and experiencing their food and lifestyle. Amen to that!
While visiting a new place, he would rather act like a local than behave like a tourist. If you’re on a trip with Ranbir, chances are that you won’t get to see the overrated places but you will find hidden beauty even in the most conventional destinations.
5. Milind Soman
Captain Vyom, India’s Iron Man, a model, an actor – is there anything this 50 year old hasn’t accomplished?
Recently after completing the toughest Triathlon, the Iron Man Triathlon held in Zurich (Switzerland), Milind proved that age is just a number. It’s a popular opinion that he is growing younger (and handsomer) with each passing day.
His favorite Indian travel destination is Choglamsar in Ladakh. Milind visits Choglamsar every year. According to him, the place offers a different luxury altogether which shies away from daily routine and offers a laid back, leisurely and much-needed vacation. The gurgling Indus River passing through Choglamsar provides the ideal background music for deep introspection.
Would you like to join Milind on his next trip to Ladakh? The only thing is, you might have a hard time trying not to gawk at this handsome hunk. Carry tissues to take care of the occasional drooling.
6. Monica Dogra
Monica Dogra, the lead singer of the electronic band Shaa’ir and Func, is a lot more than just a rock star and an actress. She’s the epitome of creativity and if you ever happened to catch Shaa’ir and Func live, you would know the true meaning behind the word ‘mesmerize’.
Born in America but made for India, Monica is a wandering soul. Travelling helps her broaden her horizons and grow as an artist, and a musician. Her favorite destinations include Norway and Cambodia.
Back in the day when she started forming her indie band, Monica and her mates used to travel to Mumbai, Goa and Delhi a lot via trains and sleeper buses as money was a problem and flights were expensive. After finding a niche for herself in the music as well as the film industry, she has turned over a new leaf and loves luxury travel. But that doesn’t mean her love for adventure has lessened. Recently, this talented beauty also went trekking to Triund.
According to Monica, Jammu is one place which will always remain close to her heart. She remembers plucking fresh strawberries there amongst tall, sunkissed mountains while racing past gurgling streams and waterfalls.
With Monica as your travel buddy, you will surely enjoy having wild conversations and being serenaded by her beautiful voice.
7. Shenaz Treasurywala
Shenaz Treasurywala is not just an actress, a model and a VJ – she’s also a travel writer!
Shenaz spent 7 years of her life travelling as her father was in the Merchant Navy. This beauty, once ranked amongst the Top 100 Beautiful Women, is a travel junkie and has written travel articles for magazines like Elle, Cosmopolitan and Femina. A travel show hosted by her called ‘Cultural Shock’ also aired on United States’ Discovery Channel.
Last year, she travelled to Varanasi, Jaipur and Delhi and did a little business travel to Pune to promote her movie Main aur Mr. Right. Now, we never heard about the movie, but we are sure she had a blast in India thanks to her regular Instagram updates (@ShenazTreasury)!
Travel with Shenaz – she’s beautiful and a she’s a born traveller.
8. Farah Khan
Being a mom to three kids, an acclaimed Bollywood director, an actor and a TV show host can be exhausting; no one manages it all better than Farah. And that’s not it, she even manages to travel with her husband, her triplets and their nanny to see the world.
Farah loves getting pampered at luxurious and palatial resorts of Rajasthan. She also loves Rajasthani food. Apart from Jaipur, her favorite holiday destination in India is Goa where she stays at the Taj, which is a popular haunt amongst celebrities.
Her travel tip to all the mothers who love to travel: Don’t go holidaying without a nanny!
9. John Abraham
This Bollywood hunk is bohemian in nature and loves to travel!
In an interview, he confessed that he’s been bitten by the travel bug and that exploring different destinations is an important part of his life.
Like you and I, whenever John wants a break from his busy schedules, he packs his bags and goes about exploring new places.
He’s strong, reliable and a seasoned traveller who loves taking trips to the Himalayas. Would you like to join him on one of his treks?
10. Raghu Ram
Now wait, I know what ya’ll be thinkin’.
Raghu Ram? Raghu? The most hated man on Indian television? Are you kidding me?
Well, as it turns out, Raghu is actually a fun guy to talk to according to a few sources and he’s also a little afraid of partaking in adventure sports. It seems hypocritical, I agree, but then again you cannot complain after having laughed sadistically for hours at the people who went for Roadies auditions as he made them sob, beg, dance, do push-ups, and other crazy things to enter the show to further humiliate themselves (without his help).
Having produced a show whose main themes are road trips and adventure, he sure got to travel a lot. Being afraid of extreme sports, Raghu loves camping in a peaceful location.
His most memorable journey is the one-day trip to the haunted Bhangarh village with his friend Rannvijay while they were on a break from shooting Roadies. It was full of adventure – a scenario he detests – but he nevertheless ended up having a good time!
Raghu might sing a song or two for you and teach you many cuss words good enough to reduce even the manliest of men to tears. The latter would be your incentive to make him your travel buddy; I’m sure of that.
I know it’s tough to decide, but if you had to choose one, who would be your travel celebuddy?
