A few quirks but overall great!

Staff were friendly, and whilst being a bit of a walk initially from the station it was such an ideal location for my sister and I with lots of supermarkets/bars/cafes/dinner places around. The size of the room was perfect for 2 and the TV and view were awesome. Bed was really comfortable, probably one of the most comfortable I've had at a hotel. Check in was super easy and there was even a bus stop outside (not that we used it as we were happy to walk).

The shower/water pressure was awful. It would sometimes work fine and then suddenly turn off halfway through a shower or be pretty much 2 drops and same with the tap. The hairdryer was also terrible as it only had a cold setting and did nothing to dry either of our hair more than just stop it from dripping (not ideal in the winter). The sensor lights in the bathroom would also turn off during showers because of the placement of it (though I do think they're a great idea to save energy!) The noise wasn't always ideal as other guests next door would randomly start singing and talk quite loudly outside the hallway/on the stairs. However we were only staying for a couple of nights so didn't feel the need to raise this unless it had gotten excessive which it didn't :) I had an issue with the price, not at the hotel's fault but rather and issue with Booking.com who over charged me.

Really good! :)

The staff was extremely friendly and always eager to help! The Hotel is really great located, with restaurants, pubs and coffeeshops nearby. The city centre and many sights are in walking distance, which was great for us as we saved a lot on money on public transports this way. The room was quite small, but it offered everything we needed. So overall I can warmly recommenf the Valentine Townhouse :)

Beautiful hotel, perfect for a small getaway

Location was great if you wanted something slightly out of city centre. Plenty of bars and cafes nearby for quick breakfasts or sit-down meals. We especially loved Bennets Bar for a beer/whisky and The Wildcat for a cocktail or two! Room was huge and very spacious with all the amenities you could want. We only saw the staff right at the end as our check in was late due to delayed trains- super easy check in process though! Cleaned the room every day when we were out and even noticed we drank the oat milk with the teas/coffees so made sure to put extra in for us the next day! Definitely things like this that make the stay a bit more special. If I happened to be coming back to Edinburgh, I would definitely stay here again!

Its an old building so expect some creaky floors and we had the first room next to the staircase so could hear people walking up and down. Still, that didnt wake us up. Would have definitely preferred to have a better lock on the door. The tiny latch did not feel very safe, especially as our room was the first you could see and we were two women staying there.

A fine place to stay

Good location, comfortable bed, decent shower.

Decor standards are "it'll do" rather than anything more impressive, which is fine really when you're here for the city. Radiator periodically made loud knocking noises which wasn't great when trying to sleep. Bathroom timer light went off mid-shower a few times!

Great location and ambience, and not as functional or comfortable as I would expect for the price.

The ambiance of the building is the best part. Winding staircases are charming. Theres a windowseat in the room. The bathroom is nicely decorated. The location is about a 10 minute walk to Edinburgh Castle.

The room was tiny. Theres maybe 2 ft between the wall and the bed. Theres no chair or closet. There is a dresser. The bathroom is really tiny, as is the shower. The last 3 days we were there was a water problem of some sort in the area, so we were told no cold water. We had cold water in the sink but not the shower. When we checked in the heater wasnt working, so they brought in a portable heater. This was a little scary for me. The 3rd or 4th day they had it fixed. I think the room would be enough for 1 person, but not more. It is not suitable for those struggling with being unfit or physical struggles, as there are many steps. My cousin really struggled. However, if you like winding staircases, youll really appreciate this aspect.

Lovely stay

Very convenient location, friendly family-owned building. Super comfy bed and everything was wonderfully clean and tidy. Beautiful view of an old church from the window

Bathroom was private, but located outside of the room down the hall a little. Did not impact my stay at all but something to note when booking your room

Very pleasant. To consider on a next visit to Edinburgh

Great location, about 20 minutes walk from Old Town, with a bus stop across the street and several restaurants and supermarkets nearby. The room was small but had all the amenities necessary for a pleasant and comfortable stay. Good price-quality ratio.

Our room was at the top of the building which does not have an elevator. As I have some mobility problems, the next time I book I will remember to choose a room on the ground floor or first floor
