Exceptional

Best place in Kolkata

The property is simply great, very beautiful and comfortable. The food is superb. It is very well located and easy to reach from everywhere. It is walking-distance from the Kali Temple, which is a must do in Kolkata. The staff is very professional and kind. I highly recommend it.

The room maintenance could be improved.

Decoration is interesting.

The rooms are small. It's not very clean. There is a musty smell everywhere, especially the bathroom. The hotel is on the street side, it is very noisy. there is a restaurant on the ground floor, in a space opening towards the rooms, a lot of human noise can be heard in the rooms until late hours. It's expensive and not worth the money.

For a female solo traveller, I wouldnt recommend this place. I arrived early morning and there was no 24/7 check in. I had to wake up some staff to get the wifi code and the staff who gave me the keys to my room didnt ask for my ID. I had to confirm my own identity to ensure I was going into the right room as the person working had no idea. Whats worse is that after this, on day 1- I was asked by one of the staff to move to a room across the street as they had a group booking. However, I had booked my room months In advance and it would make things inconvenient for me, however they didnt want to take no for an answer. I pushed back, but they knew I wasnt a local and This seemed to tick me off. They spoke to each other in Bengali and I couldnt understand. The next day, a day before my flight out of Kolkata - they tell me that they need me to pay again on the property, despite having pre payment option selected and also confirmed my booking. They threatened to call the police when clearly they were trying to go offline with booking.com, and clearly are only using this platform for leads. Please save your money, time and energy by not going to this place. And the owner is not afraid to ridicule his clients if it means he will get money on the spot by threatening a solo travel with police and unsafe situations.

Breakfast- The staff was waiting for the chef who turned up at 9am, even though breakfast started at 7. It took them exactly 30-35mins to give me tea, and then a bad-tasting breakfast. Not value for money- The hotel is good for 3k, but I paid a lot more. Booking charged me Rs 3800, which at the property I found excluded taxes, so that's Rs 500. Plus, not sure how the booking was made for one person, so the hotel charged me an additional 1500 for it. All in all, I paid around 6k for the hotel. There are incredibly better options at that price. I stayed at the Calcutta bungalow at a cheaper price, and Elgin Fairlawn at a slightly higher price in the same trip, both worthy hotels. In one word: Avoid

Superb

Walking distance from Jatin Das Metro station. Convenient for local buses and cabs. Local shops and supermarkets near by. Broad selections of cafes, restaurants and local eateries. Enjoying morning walk trough the old South Calcutta neighbourhood. Renovated classical building. The cafe-restaurant on the goundfloor, guest rooms on the upper floors and the pleasant roof top garden. Each room with a different design and unique taste. Simple but enough equipped. Kind and helpful staff.

too noisy because of a thoroughfare very busy near by, you cannot see daylight, windows are closed and with closed shutters so it's electric light all the time. air con is too cold in the dining room so you need a jumper...
