Very poor

Disappointing experience

Location was convenient, management was easy to contact via WhatsApp and responsive.

This property is by no means five star and provided a very disappointing experience. I stayed for a week and had several problems during my stay that were by and large not handled appropriately by the staff. The property is in need of serious renovations and marketing it as a three star property at half the price would be far more appropriate. The room provides no storage -- literally no drawers to unpack for an extended stay. Housekeeping was very disappointing as my room just simply wasn't cleaned several days and I had to ask for it to be serviced in the early evening when going out for dinner. Even when it was serviced, I was given stained towels and the amenities I had used weren't replaced. The wifi didn't work at all for the first two days of my stay and worked sporadically during the rest of the week. When I inquired with the staff about what the issue was, one day I was given the excuse that "too many people were trying to access the network." This was at 6 AM. Indeed, the responses and reactions of the staff were a major issue throughout the week. My safe did not work when I arrived and I had to ask four times for it to be fixed, which didn't happen until the next day and only after I spoke to one of the managers. The mini-fridge also leaked during my stay and left water all over the floor. There were just too many issues during the stay and the manner the staff handled it was disappointing. Problems happen but staff should endeavor to fix them as soon as possible and apologize for the inconvenience, rather than make up excuses or ignore them.

Very good

A lovely stay in Unawatuna.

The staff are the best thing about this property. Prasad in particular on reception was excellent and very helpful. Chandana the property manager ensured I had a pick up from the airport and a lovely stay. Dilrukshi helped me plan all my treatments. The bar manager was so kind and helpful and all the staff were extremely friendly and professional My massage therapist was fantastic. I had a massage every day. The Thaprobani signature was terrific. My yoga teacher did 90 mins of yoga every day at 8am in a beautiful studio at Thaproban Retreat. A couple of mins walk from Waves. Nandan was brilliant and I really enjoyed his class. Very worth while trying.

Disappointing

Would not recommend to anyone.

Unimpressed.

Went with high expectations, but this hotel really did not live up to the reviews on booking.com or the steep tariff they charge. The service was very poor. Despite arriving at around 4pm and having prepaid 90%, we had to wait 20-30mins to be shown to our room. The bathroom was stinking when we arrived, although this was fixed eventually. We requested for breakfast to be packed one morning by 5am, but this was ready only by 5:45am. The packed breakfast was terrible and not what one would expect from a 5star restaurant. Beds were super uncomfortable and gave us all backaches. Breakfast buffet was also quite average.

Superb

A wonderful relaxing trip, with wonderful staff who go above and beyond

It was my second time visiting, this time with family. We enjoyed relaxing around the pool, enjoying the roof top bar for sun downers and making use of the spa facilities (including an extra usage for a head massage when I had a migraine). The staff really make this hotel - the hospitality shown from arrival until you leave is exceptional. They are friendly, provide great service, and give wonderful tips for both the local area and the country to make the most of your stay. Would 100% recommend a stay here. Must do's: an experience at the spa (I would recommend the head massage); the BBQ night and the Sri Lankan food night; a cocktail on the roof terrace for sunset!

Terrible Avoid

Terrible checked out .. the room backed onto private villa where there was noisy party at 7.30 on which was getting more rowdy as time passed. Very poor management of hotel .. charged us in full .. could not offer another room and even chased after us to pay for bar of chocolate as we left at 9pm with my young child to find somewhere else. Avoid as this seems to be regular problem talking to other guests.

Brilliant beach break in a lovely hotel, with great staff.

Wonderful, friendly staff. 2 great pools Transfers available to sister properties (1 is on the beach) although it's not far or difficult to walk ........around 15 - 20 minutes to the long Unawatuna main beach, where there are many cafes, restaurants and (Although it's on the coast, the sea by the hotel is not accessible..........there are huge boulders and the swell on the sea is very strong). Looks magnificent though....... especially on a windy day. Around 20 minutes, partly tough, walk to Jungle. beach (This could be Rumassala beach?) A small beach where there are several cafe's and some sun-beds.

Exceptional

Great hotel at a great location.

This is a really nice hotel with a great location. Just a few steps to Unawatuna beach, close to jungle beach and around 20 min in tuk tuk to Galle Fort. Big rooms and a nice pool area.

Breakfast was not to good. But if your in to wite bread, Sri lankan curry or pastery your in for a blast. :-)
