had brekkie, hot water, and functional spaces (kitchen, living room, laundry on site)

messy rooms, water temp is pretty sporadic, pub attached (cool! but even with discount still way pricey), notices all over with some conflicting info - just seems like it could use a good deep clean and some updates and it would be miles better

The mix out of pub and hostel, guests get a discount on food and drinks in the pub. Breakfast was good

The waterpressure in the showers was bad and the water did not stay at a certain temperature no matter what. The kitchen is tiny considering its quite a few people staying there and also not super clean

Staff behind the desk at the check in were very nice, friendly and welcoming. Cheap rooms and easy to extend the stay.

We checked out of the hostel on two separate occasions - one of us accidentally left behind a watch charger the first time and AirPods the second time. Contacted the hostel as soon as we realised, which was within a few hours, as we knew exactly where we left the items but were told they werent found after the room had been cleaned, on two different occasions. One bed in a shared dorm had a spring sticking out from the mattress which was rather uncomfortable.

Budget friendly stay in Melbourne

The location, close to the tram stop, above a pub, and within walking distance from restaurants and supermarkets. Staff is very friendly and wifi is stable.

The thin walls, it can be quite noisy especially if other guests are rude (and e.g speak on the phone in the corridor until late at night or early morning, or worst both). Facilities are also quite dated, but adequate.

Disappointing

The bar below was a comfortable place to hang out and eat breakfast. Reasonable cleanliness.

- Bunk bed was far too flimsy for a backpackers. The entire bunk rocked when any sleeper turned over etc. So they need some solid bunks. - Recharge outlet for 6 peoples phones in the bunk room were on the floor in the middle of the room and this meant: 1. you couldn't use your phone while it was charging overnight and 2. any person the re e could have stolen it overnight while you were asleep, - No curtains on the bunks for privacy. - dining and lounge area had little or no daylight, and had to go to the bar or out for a pleasant place to be.
