Beautiful Building steeped in history - excellent food. Eggs benedict breakfast was outstanding.

I desperately wanted to like this property more, but as there were only 2 guests staying while I was there they decided to ruin our stay by painting the whole lobby area and first floor. This meant the place was full of noisy workmen - scaffolding on the main staircase, horrific smell of paint and turps that gave you a constant headache. No prior warning was provided for the works and totally ruined my stay. I couldn't use the pool and didn't want to be gawped at by the workmen (as its not very secluded), i couldn't use the main staircase (which is part of the charm of the hotel) so had to use the service stairs at the back of the property - all artwork had been removed from the walls while they painted, and there was no escape the smells in any room. Either close the hotel when you rennovate, or inform the guests what you are doing and give them a 50% discount while you are doing it. Dont expect guests to pay full whack and ruin their stay. Such a shame. I think there are better places to stay in Colombo and then just visit Tintagel for drinks and supper - much better idea.

Beautiful historical building, but not very practical

Historical building, former home of the prime minister. Very beautiful construction and decoration. Staff was very friendly and smiley.

Everything looks beautiful at first site, but rooms are very dark. Bathroom is too dark to use the mirror to shave or make up. Everytime I slept, Id wake up with someone sweeping the patio. In the afternoon, at 5:30 am, at night. Right on my window, which was the nicest suite of the hotel. Your balcony is shared with another suite, which is weird. Food was not tasty and came cold, but my friend who ate with me liked his order. One of the staff members was really annoying asking for tip every time wed return to our bedrooms.

Was once a grand place, falling into disrepair.

The staff are impeccable and always have been on former visits as well as this one. Kind, attentive service, notable hospitality and above and beyond attention. Elegant and refined.

Sadly, It seems as if the general standards for room upkeep have been a bit diminished. While I had chosen a specific room, we were given an "upgrade" and while the room was larger, it wasn't really cared for properly, noisy as it was by a bathroom and the kitchen. The wood by the pool is rotting, the floor has buckled inside the room too due to moisture. And because of its location and likely sitting pools of water, there were lots of mosquitos in the room at all hours. The electrical outlets really need updating and the general mustiness in the closest really require addressing. Probably should spend the money on rooms instead of everything from sugar and bottled being branded. It was all really unfortunate as I visit Sri Lanka often and was at the end of a month long trip hoping to enjoy a last bit of comfort that wasn't there like previous visit. Not particularly likely to visit again.

Superb

An historic hotel, offering calm and tranquility in a great location in Colombo.

A wonderful hotel, with great history, in an ideal location. As a city stay hotel, this was perfect. Stepping in off the busy streets, the Tintagel is an oasis of calm and luxury. The staff are super friendly and helpful and the rooms were very comfortable. I would highly recommend this hotel as a place to stay in Colombo.
