LUX* Grand Gaube Resort & Villas

Some staff came across very rude. The following departments: 1)Bar staff 2)Restaurant staff, especially during breakfast. We stayed in a Junior Suite, in my opinion it cannot be considered a junior suite, small and not what we expected. Not much privacy, every foot step in the room above us can be heard. We also were very upset as we had a DND sign up but they proceeded to enter our room with our valubales laying around and it was reported but no feedback and follow up by the night shift manager. We also visited the sister resort Lux Belle Mare, and the service there was exceptional. The staff were very polite. We will definitely be booking at lux Belle Mare on our next trip. They open your door for you and assist with parcels, the same cannot be said for lux grand gaube. Lux Grand Gaube staff are very rude, dismissive and you feel lile you're annoying them when talking to them. We did not get to do much of the inclusive water activities and the gentleman at the centre was not very helpful. I highly doubt I will book at Lux grand Gaube again. Not what you expect for 1300 Euros a night.

BUT.. I wouldnt write this review if there werent a few (not too many) negative points: - fridge in room not cooling properly, also beer in general not really cold. - Shower in bad condition: Rain shower only dripping (due to calcified shower head) and lots of water leaking out of the glass door onto the floor of bathroom. Badly needs a renovation! Also in general the rooms need an overhaul, the last night there was water dripping out of the A/C ventillation shaft from the ceiling. Some parts of the hotel have seen better days - Hotel claims to be sustainable, but one of the Golfcarts with a diesel engine driving around campus pollutes the air so much (dark grey smoke filling the air in a 100m radius) it compensates for the other 20 with an electric motor. Also A/C is cranked open in the changing room of the gym (literally two ppl per day stepping in there), to me thats not sustainable at all. - Housekeeping was in general superb, just once where it was a complete fail (basically just the bed was made) while the sand on the floor and the dirt in the lavabo was left untouched. They cleaned it the next day and asked if it was ok which I appreciate a lot, even tho it shouldve been done in the first place. - Beach was mediocre at best: muddy water and almost the whole right half taken up by boats and waterplanes which were frequently departing and arriving. This couldve been solved better since there are two smaller beaches (adult only and bay) just nearby. - prices for food and drinks are way over the top - 7 for a small (local!!) beer! Thats more expensive than friggin zurich! They are ripping the tourists off thats for sure! Otherwisewd a big thank you to the whole team, you did a great job pampering us for a whole week =)

We chose one of the worst hotels in Mauritius for our honeymoon based on reviewsa significant mistake. Despite booking for 4 nights, we had to cancel and limit our stay to just 1 night. From the start, the reception service was poor; a lady left us behind after taking us to the account room. Once we paid, we searched for her in the reception, but she had disappeared. The hotel entrance was chaotic, with people in flip-flops and towels on sofasunacceptable for a 5-star hotel. Our room was initially dirty, full of hairs and dirt on the floor but after requesting cleaning, a team promptly resolved the issue. However, the main restaurant offered bad service, with waiters delivering wrong orders. Disappointed, we opted for fries and calamari, which arrived cold after a 45-minute wait. Paying 500 euros per night for such a shocking experience was truly disheartening. not suitable for couples or families looking for a luxury experience. its absolutely belove the average and I would give 3 stars to this hotel and nowhere close to 5!!

We didnt feel it represented good value for money or a 5 star hotel unfortunately. The housekeeping wasnt up to 5 star standard (or the rooms) and you are reminded often of what is and isnt included which didnt really give a 5 star feel, you get the impression that everything the hotel does is with the bottom line in mind. Examples include: the tennis courts loaning racquets, but requiring you to purchase a tube of balls for 500r (approx 10), not having champagne and the worst canaps we have ever had. It has great potential but there were certain elements (including the food) that felt a little lacklustre unfortunately.
