Best hotel in Thamel!

One of the best hotels in Thamel. Just everything is perfect here. Quiet, clean, comfortabke. One can feel at ease here. We have been here the last 4 times when we travel to Nepal. Best choice and we come again and we will recommend this great hotel to our friends.. Thanks to Kagendra that he is always of support.

Pleasant stay

My family had a very pleasant stay at Dom Himalaya. The hotel is strategically located at Thamel, one of the busiest places of Kathmandu. The room, the reception area etc was well maintained. Also they helped us with our local sight seeing.

too small. rates too high onbooking.com check in rate very low. rude tour manager. needs to be kicked out. rude front desk.

perfect in every way

Everything about the property is great. Central location in the midst of Thamel yet so quiet and peaceful you would not know you were in the middle of a bustling city. Generous rooms, nice and clean. Amazing hot showers and a great breakfast. Lovely romantic garden especially when lit up at night. The owner and the staff are exceptional. they could not be more helpful and go above and beyond. We stayed as a base for a split trip, hiking in the Everest region and then touring round to Pokhara and Chitwan National Park. safe luggage storage available. Couldnt ask for more.

Disappointing

Didnt feel comfortable staying in this hotel

I should preface any comment here by being honest on the fact that we stayed about 15min at the hotel before deciding to head somewhere else. So I cant really judge the full stay. I guess the only thing that was good about the stay is that the staff was friendly, and after a little arguing, they allowed us a partial refund of our stay when it wasnt something they had to agree on (as their rooms are non refundable). Also, the pick up service at the airport was very professional and waited for us even though our flight was an hour+ late.

Now again, we havent stayed past the first 15min, but that was enough for us. Overall we were worried upon checking our room, the first one we were assigned to was a twin bed, instead of the precisely requested double bed, which we always have to insist on because 2 men sleeping in the same bed seems to be abnormal (to be fair this is not only in that establishment but as least, other hotels ask before assigning us a room). Anyway, we got moved to another room, felt bigger with a nice balcony, but looking at the details it felt very old and outdated. The balconies are accessible by doors that dont close flush to the walls, so mosquitoes are just always welcome in the room (which is worrying in countries where Dengue and other diseases are an issue). The room came with a mosquito repellent plug, but it was empty The bathroom was dark and gloomy, there were holes in the linen, the bed wasnt very comfy, no hand towel, missing handles, and a few other issues. Overall we were just not comfortable sleeping in those rooms, and while discussing with the manager, we noticed something that has actually been the case for almost all the hotels we stayed out: do not trust star ratings on Booking.com, at least in that region (we stayed in Bangladesh, Nepal and India). This hotel is shown as a 4 stars on Booking at the time of writing this review, and the logo for the hotel shows 5 stars, but the manager told us that the hotel was a 3 stars. So if you base your hotel standards on stars rating, double check with Google and other booking sites before booking.
