Chaweng Regent Beach Resort - SHA Extra Plus

When we arrived we were given a room we did not book. We booked an upstairs room with a garden view and balcony. The downstairs family room we were given was dark and noisy at night as many people were passing by talking. There was no art on the bare depressing walls either- (see images).Ive stayed in better Premier Inns for a third of the price. There was no view and the outside space was an unattractive yard lacking privacy. I complained on three separate occasions citing the room details for the room had booked. At one point a female manager told me I should have requested the room was upstairs and had a balcony. I pointed out that these were in the room description, so I shouldnt have to request them. I had to show them this on booking.com. I wouldnt expect to request doors, windows or beds ! On the first two occasions we were told there were no other rooms. It wasnt until the second day when I spoke loudly in reception about misrepresentation and fraud that magically a room was available. This second room was most definitely the one we originally booked! On our last day, we witnessed another couple being fobbed-off in a similar way. I do not want to be arguing with people and fighting for what I paid for, so this was not the relaxing break anticipated. On a broader note, I would not recommend this location (Chaweng) for young families. Since Thailand legalised cannabis in 2020, this area has become a Mecca for groups of young people (mainly men) getting high in and around the resort. There is a cannabis shop right next door to this hotel and pretty much one every few metres. Such a shame. As someone who has visited Koh Samui 25 years ago it was very sad to see the decline. While we we staying at this hotel there was a group of aggressive young people, one of whom physically assaulted me (a middle aged woman).

We stayed at the resort for one week booking two rooms. The premier double and a spa villa suite. I was staying in the spa villa suite. Positives The staff are very welcoming and answered requests we had in a timely manner. The maintenance staff could be seen keeping the resort ticking along The first issue we had was that the jacuzzi bath in our room was not working one the first day and maintenance had to attend to this. The waterfall shower was also crusted up with limescale and we could only use the hand held one. Breakfast was varied and I would imagine everyone would find something that they could eat. We stayed over Christmas and as such the hotel was VERY busy. Each morning all the towels were out on the empty sunbeds and it was always a struggle to find a bed. The hotel had a policy that towels would be removed after 30 minutes but this wasnt actioned. We saw some towels left out all day with no one taking the bed which indicated to me that guests were able to ensure beds were reserved for them for a price. I found this whole situation a pain and stressy. In your room are bathrobes complimentary tea. Coffee and water which is a nice touch. Laundry service also offered with a laundry bag. Beach bag to take to the pool. Robes and bags clearly marked as hotel property as they should be. There were also a couple of pairs of plain black flip flops which I thought was a nice touch and used around the pool. With no note on them and with no thought that these would be second hand ! I placed in my case to take home with me. I was mortified on check out to be asked to return them ( the maid had clearly done a quick check of our room as we trundled out our cases ). In the lobby I had to open my case and remove. Two points aside from the embarrassing mistake I had made. Firstly I had been wearing second hand flip flops which no matter what sanitising they had done I found pretty disgusting.
