Classic Hotel in a Great Location

I enjoyed staying at this hotel again. It is in a great location for walking around old town. The building is an interesting classic old building. The breakfast and coffee were very good. The staff was professional and helpful.

Unfortunately, this time there was a bad odor in the bathroom that seemed to be coming from the shower drain or plumbing somehow. I have stayed here several times and this has not happened in any other room. Perhaps it was a temporary situation with city services. I will stay here again though and don't expect it to occur in other rooms in the future.

Location was good, the old building atmosphere was nice, the provision in the room of a solid (not plastic) shoe horn for getting my boots on was a bonus.

All the steps to enter and exit the hotel with no ramp for luggage was a bit of a challenge (although this is noted in the hotel description) and could be difficult for guests, particularly older ones with check-in size luggage. There was no tea or coffee making facilities in the room; the shower head was difficult to adjust and the 1&1/2 pillows were too soft. The breakfast was quite basic and failed to take into consideration dietary requirements eg. no non-dairy milk options, no gluten-free, etc., and we were not informed by staff of the option for a hot cooked breakfast - I only knew about this by reading comments from previous guests - and had to ask about it.

Perfection.

For better or worse I'm a pretty picky traveller, so it's rare that I find a property where literally everything was perfect. Altstadt Stadtkrug is that rare perfect hotel: the staff were incredibly welcoming and responsive, the rooms are delightfully rustic and the hotel as a whole is quaintly decorated in a beautiful style, the bedding was comfortable, the room completely silent at night, the bathroom excellent with both heated railings and underfloor heating, the restaurant and breakfast services were first rate... I could go on endlessly about just how good this hotel is. The icing on the cake is that it's incredibly conveniently located for access both to Old Salzburg and New Salzburg, and that it's very reasonably priced.

It was a bit too warm in our room and we couldnt turn down the heat, but the underfloor heating in the bathroom was great.

A lovely hotel to stay at with respect to staff, cleanliness and location

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the hotel is in a great location for seeing the sights. Facilities are modern and the wall and lift decorations are a nice touch.

There were a few stairs to get up and down to go to reception which is difficult with heavy bags though staff did help when we checked out. We asked for twin beds and whilst we got two mattresses the base was fixed, and we couldn't move them apart.

The property is well located and in a charming old building.

Being in an old building means there are a lot of weirdly placed stairs, even with the elevator.

Very poor

I would avoid at all costs and would never stay again!

The staff was very helpful, no doubt about that. They assisted in any way they could. The bad review I am providing is based on the value for what s offered and the facilities. Therefore, I suggest that whoever reads this should continue to the next section.

The value of the hotel is extremely overpriced. In Vienna for the same amount of space (the only drawback was two separate rooms rather than connected suites) and same amount of time we paid 60% of what we pair in Salzburg (Salzburg - E2,500, Vienna - E1,500)! Note that Vienna hotel was 5-star, while Stadkrug hotel is 4-star! In Salzburg our parking was 10 minutes away from the hotel, in Vienna it was 3 floors down from our rooms. While downtown (Aldstad) Vienna is Vibrant and alive at 10-11 pm on any day, downtown (Aldstad) Salzburg is dead at 8 pm. The lighting in the rooms was inadequate - dim lights are very romantic, but if one needs to look for something flashlight is needed. Overall, this property is extremely overpriced for the amenities it offers (4-star hotel) as compared to a 5-start hotel in Vienna! The atmosphere around it hotel Stadkrug is really "medieval" - everething is asleep after 8 pm.
