Despite this, the friendly staff, particularly the doorman and reception team, received high praise. Superb

Great stay in Edinburgh, would stay again

Very lovely staff, great breakfast too. But I need to tell you the shower in our room was amazing! It was also in a great location!

This is very personal, but the pillows were very soft and uncomfortable for me but they tried their absolute best to help us out.

Not a 5 star hotel

Great location, room was lovely, Victorian style

The service isnt for a 5 star hotel, we felt like we were in a normal hotel, the restaurant looks amazing and everyone is trying to book a table, but the service and food isnt the impression the restaurant gives us, its just the look, most of the staff seem to be new, so they dont know how to give a proper 5 star hotel service, the food was horrible (we stated 2 nights, we had breakfast and dinner), you have to wait almost and hour for your meal and half an hour to order, the place is so busy that they forget to give a good service as they are rushing all the time and forget to place the orders, same in reception, even before arriving I sent some requests, and they couldnt even read them properly, sending vague answers. The room has so many snacks and drinks outside the fridge, placed in a random way with no price next to it, making it a bit confusing of whats complementary, well there wasnt anything for free, many hotels give you at least 2 bottle of water, and in this place they charge for absolutely everything you could see. Dont get fooled by the look of the hotel, and the people wearing their smart clothes, this is definitely not a 5 star hotel.

Its a beautiful hotel in a great location. The staff in the spa and The Spence restaurant were fantastic. The Spence was great for breakfast and evening meal and we had good treatments in the spa.

Sadly although we forewarned of our early arrival off the sleeper train the front desk staff made zero effort to speed up a room being available or to find us a place we could hang out in and use as a base. Disappointing for a hotel charging more than 700 per night. I complained and the manager did call to discuss. Such as shame as other than this its a great place.

Its been beautifully completed. Very tasteful and grand.

Its a bit of a labyrinth but thats the old building and to be fair is quite quirky.

Decor was outstanding. the bed was very comfortable, the staff in the rooftop bar were very friendly and attentive

Restaurant staff were not interested in serving us drinks and when I eventually caught their attention they delivered drinks leaving the empty glasses on the table

The restaurant was closed for a private function which we knew before arrival however the bar was also closed which we did not know , nit a huge problem but inconvenient our room was in the 4th floor and the lift was not working
