A Buddhist town that flaunts age-old tools, Buddhist stupas, statues, monasteries and scriptures; Nagarjunakonda is one of the famous Buddhist pilgrimage sites in India. Located 150km from Hyderabad, near the Nagarjuna Sagar Reservoir, the town is believed to have been existed for almost 1800 years. It is also said that the famous Buddhist monk Nagarjuna after whom this place is named, lived here and preached during the 2nd century AD. Owing to this, Nagarjunakonda was discovered around 1926 and is revered as an important historic site, for Buddhism scholars and followers this is a pilgrim spot. - Be sure to make advanced bookings at the hotels especially if you're going for the weekend.
- Carry (Read More) torches, good shoes and a backpack to use while exploring the caves, they involve a bit of a climb.
- Even if you're not staying for the night, carry an extra change of clothes in case you get wet while exploring the dam and the waterfall.
