Trishul Peak, Auli Overview

The three Himalayan mountain peaks of western Kumaun as a whole form the Trishul peak. Having a height of 7120m, the Trishul group forms the southwest corner of the ring of peaks that enclose Nanda Devi Sanctuary. In 1907, the main peak - Trisul I - became the first peak over 7,000m to have ever been climbed by someone. The peak can be best viewed from Kausani or during the Roopkund Trek.

The three peaks that form Trishul Peak resemble the shape of a trident or Trishula, as known in Hindi/Sanskrit. It is known to be the weapon of Shiva. The Trishul group, encloses the Nanda Devi Sanctuary like a ring. The main peak, Trisul I, was the first peak with the elevation of 7,000 m to have ever been climbed by someone.

Climate in Trishul Peak

During Spring (March & April), the weather becomes very cold due to heavy snowfall in the valley. The monsoons remain very cold too, while the temperatures fall further occasionally. In the months of September, October and November, the climate is pleasant and skies are clear. The first snow occurs generally in November/December.

History of Trishul Peak

The history of Kullu traces 2000 years back . The word "Kullu" is derived from the word "Kuluta". From the first century, Archaeologists found 'Kuluta' inscribed on a coin. Virayasa was the first king whose name was there on that coin as 'Virayasa, King of Kuluta'. Trishul peak includes three mountain peaks that are in the shape of a trident.

Base Camp Trekking

Base Camp trekking is also available for tourists visiting Trishul Peak. Visitors are advised to carry woollen clothes and blankets to protect themselves from the harsh weather if camping.

Tips For Visiting Trishul Peak

  • Jeep Safaris are available.
  • Minibus trip to Leh is available on request.
  • Be careful while venturing around rivers and streams as the water level may rise at any time during the rains.
  • Please carry full-body raincoats to protect yourself. Visitors are advised to bring light woollen clothes with them as it is very cold during winters. If visiting Rohtang or high altitude regions, carry heavy woollen clothes.
