Lavasa Travel Guide

Lavasa sits on the shores of Warasgaon Lake, about 65 km from Pune, spread across seven hills of the Western Ghats. It was planned in the 2000s as India's first private hill city, styled after the Italian town of Portofino, complete with a lakeside promenade, pastel-coloured buildings, and plans for a population in the lakhs. Development stalled after the Lavasa Corporation entered insolvency proceedings around 2018, and much of the intended town remains unfinished, with several stretches of construction left incomplete. A handful of hotels, the promenade, and the lake itself are still functional, and Lavasa continues to draw a smaller stream of day-trippers and short-stay visitors from Pune and Mumbai, but it is no longer the fully realised planned city it originally set out to be.
